Avoid Credit Card Traps (Part 2)

In the last post we talked about NOT using the cash advance feature of a credit card if you can avoid it. We also touched on NOT paying the minimum fee each month. Here are other traps that you can avoid when it comes to your credit card.

Better Late Than Never
This saying may be good for many other situations but with your credit card, it really does not apply. You may have all the excuses for making late payments but credit card companies will not honor any of them, no matter how good they may be. When it comes to making payments on your credit card bill, late is not better than anything. Only paying on or before the due date counts for anything. How to avoid the late payment trap? It is simple – pay on time.

I Need That – I Really Do
Ask yourself again, do you really need that or maybe you can wait a few months and save up for whatever it is that you want to buy? Identifying needs and wants is supposedly something that young people have trouble with. Adults, however, are not exempt from this dilemma either. There are times that we just want something so badly that we end up convincing ourselves that we need to buy this particular thing – like the newest gadget in the market. The next time that you find yourself rationalising in this manner, hide that credit card and analyse the situation several times before making that purchase.
