Buy, buy, buy…
Whether you hear audibly or not, this is the message that is on continuous play each time you visit the supermarket or department store. They have but one mission: to get you to part with your hard earned money. They spend countless dollars on schemes that would make you enjoy your shopping experience and entice you to spend left and right – and it works!
Yet information is power, I believe. Knowing what you are up to will arm you against temptation. So here are some tactics sellers use to lull you into that shopping state of mind…

Items in the store are NOT placed randomly.
Each item on each shelf on each corner has been placed there for a reason. So if you suddenly feel like grabbing something that you “just happen to see,” stop. Do not follow your impulse but instead think about it. Check your list – oh right, do you have one of those? – and see if the item is included. If not, walk away. Just walk away.
The scent of a woman…
…attracts men, supposedly. They do play on the strength of this sense, though. How many times have you gone to the supermarket and smelled freshly baked bread and automatically walked over to the baked goods section? It works doesn’t it? Again, when you find yourself doing something like this, check your list and see if you are supposed to get it. By the way, the music they play serves the same purpose. Do not be fooled into staying longer and lingering on just because of the music.
More to come in the next post.
