Buy, buy, buy … (Part 2)
I was at the supermarket yesterday and you cannot imagine the throng of people there! It made remember this back to back post about how stores employ tactics to make us buy – it seemed to work as most of the people had piles upon piles of stuff in their check out cart.
Here are more strategies they employ in order to entice us to buy more:

Stop, Look, and Buy
The first thing that the store wants you to do is to stop. Unless you stop, they can’t get you to buy anything. So they find ways to get you to break your stride, linger a little longer at a display, and walk out with more than you originally intended to buy. How do you combat this? Simple! Remember the list I kept mentioning in the last post? Keep that handy and keep on walking with a purpose.
Bend Over
Maybe not necessarily like Beckham but do stretch downward a little bit and take a look at the products in the lower shelves. Displays are arranged so that the more expensive brands are at your eye level – they are easier to reach. You have to exert a little bit of an effort to reach the more cost effective brands – but it’s worth it!
Buy One, Get One
Oh, I am such a sucker for this! Stores would bundle two items together and sell it for the price of one. Studies have shown that the tag “two for one” has increased sales more than the tag “50% off,” so I don’t really feel bad for falling for their ploy. Yet think about it the next time you see this promo – do you really need two of the item?
