Reverse Budgeting
Do you have a hard time coming up with a budget and sticking to it? Who doesn’t? I am willing to bet that a lot of people have encountered this problem. In the beginning, the intention is there but sometimes, a lot of discipline is needed in order to be able to stick to a budget.
How about coming up with a reverse budget? I don’t know if this is a real money term but I think that you are familiar with it. What I mean by this is doing away with budgeting in the traditional sense. Of course, this does not mean that you are not going to try to handle your finances wisely anymore. What it means, simply, is that you write down all that you spend in a day, then in a week, and then a month.
Who among us wouldn’t want to find ways to make our money last much longer than normal? Sorry to say, but I think you are quite special if you do not think this way. So in these days of financial stress, how can we make our income last longer? Here are some tips to help you out.
Pocket change can be much more
Look back to your younger years when you were quite excited about putting money into your piggy bank. Who said that that thing is only for kids? Why don’t you try this – at the end of each day, dig deep into your pockets and look for your loose change.
In this manner, you would be able to see the pattern in your expenditures. Noting down the amount and what you used it for would allow you to see which expenses are frivolous and unnecessary. For example, you might see that you have been spending way too much on drinking every week. Another example would be that too huge a chunk of your income is going into credit card payments.
This kind of activity just might trigger an epiphany on your part. Seeing in black and white where your money is going just might make you realise that you are throwing a large portion of your income away. This, in turn, may help you manage your money more sensibly.
What do you think?
