More Christmas Shopping Rules

So you have your lists and you have cleared most of your credit card debt.  Do you think you are ready to handle the rest of your Christmas shopping?  If you have been smart and you have prepared a long time ago, you would probably be finished with most of the shopping by now.

Then again, not everyone has been blessed with the free time and the fore sight to finish all Christmas preparations way ahead of time.  So for those – who are like me – who are still going to hit the shops in the following days, here are more “rules” that will help you get more out of your money.

Use cash as much as possible
I know I talked about credit cards and their use in the last post.  Yet I am still a firm believe in using cash.  Cash helps you cut down on spending – you immediately feel the effect when you buy something.  It does not give you the false security that you can spend more because you didn’t actually see money changing hands.

Spend more time in one shopping spree…
…and avoid doing your shopping in little spurts.  What do I mean?  Some people tend to shop on impulse – an hour on Monday and then maybe a little bit the next day and so on.  Though this may be exciting for some, it makes it harder to keep track of your expenses.  The result will be MORE spending.  My suggestion is that you set aside a whole day or a whole afternoon – or two if you must – and do your shopping in long blocks and then stay away from the shops when you’re done.
